Possible Link between Colorectal Cancer and Oral Health

colorectal CancerA microbe known as fusobacteria has been implicated in various forms of periodontal disease. The same microbe has been linked to colorectal cancer, the second-leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide. Research has yet to show whether the microbes simply appear together or whether having periodontal diseases could actually be a cause of colorectal cancer. But the appearance of the microbe in both places adds to the growing body of evidence that links dental health with health of the whole body.

Dr. Aaron D. Johnson at the Smile Center in Bismarck, ND takes the connection between oral health and general health seriously and will work to achieve the highest level of dental health possible with his patients.
