Why are My Front Teeth Chipping Away as I get Older?
As we mature, the forces on our front teeth take a toll. Grinding, clenching your jaw, called ‘bruxism’ can lead to chipping and jaw pain. This can be from habit, stress, or a mismatch between where the jaw wants to bite together and where the teeth want to bite. Sometimes we can stop the behavior, but often that can’t be done. A properly made guard, which looks like a retainer, will correct the difference in bites between the teeth and the jaw, protecting the teeth and reducing or eliminating pain. It is also a good idea to use front teeth for biting into food and not to tear tape or packaging.
